I am Melissa Milam and I am a Kindergarten Teacher at Heard Elementary School.  I have been teaching since 1997.  I started at a private daycare in Coweta County where I taught Pre-K.  In February of 1999 I started at Heard Elementary where I continued teaching Pre-K.  I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education at State University of West Georgia.  In the future, I hope to return to college to work on my six year degree in Early Childhood Education.

In 2002, I was nominated and won runner-up teacher of the year for Heard Elementary.  This was such an amazing accomplishment for me and I contribute my success to my family, my students, their parents, and my co-workers.  I truly believe that every child has the ability to learn when they are given the right instructional strategies as well as a great learning environment.  One of my greatest joys is watching each child grow and learn.  I strive to provide a safe and encouraging learning environment for all of my students.  I will do my very best to build a trusting relationship with the parents of my students by communicating my expectations.  I believe that communication is an essential component of children’s success.

In closing, teaching is not an easy or money making career; however, I believe that it is the most rewarding.  There is never a dull moment in the teaching field because you are dealt a different hand every time you come through your classroom door.  My goal is to make each day as fulfilling as possible for the children as well as myself.
